Quarter Mile Groove

The recording translates the length of its vinyl groove into audio allowing listeners to experience the 1/4 mile length of the spiral as the record is played. Every inch of the needle’s path is audible in the form of a click, each foot as a beat and distances of 10 feet are heard as a blip. These sounds gradually slow as the stylus approaches the center, (the stylus travels less distance in the groove with each revolution of the record). Along the way, the voice of the narrator mentions the horizontal dimensions of particular objects.

Mit gesteigerten Vergnügen präsentiert PAMPIG heute einen Neuzugang in seinen musikalischen Dunstkreis. ‘Whø?’ hat so viele Nächte und Tage vor Clublautsprechern verbracht, daß er sich nun den Entrittspreis getrost sparen kann und wohl gleich gekonnt der lokalen Berliner Mischpultresidenzen seine privaten Plattenteller für uns dreht. Das Ergebnis ‘Headtrick’ steht nun in Form einer musikalischen Klangwolke zur Verfügung, fertig abgemischt zum auditiven Konsum, strictly vinyl, is klar.

voodoo sessions

Der gute Jonny Trunk vom Trunk Records Label, dass auf die Veröffnentlichung alter Film Soundtracks, Sexploitation und Library Music spezialisiert ist, hat kürzlich eine auf diabolische 666 Exemplare limitierte 7-inch eines bis dato verschollenen Tubby Hayes Tracks veröffentlicht (alle schon weg). Wer eine wollte musste Jonny eine Voodoopuppe zeichnen und schicken. HIER MEINE. Die ‘Voodoo Session’ ist ein Stück, das für den britischen Horrorfilm ‘Dr. Terror’s House of Horrors‘ im Jahr 1965 eingespielt wurde.

Der Track wurde erst jetzt auf alten Tonbändern wiederentdeckt.

Kurz durch den Plot – Fünf Männer in der Karibik, einer wohnt einer Voodoo Zeremonie bei, findet die Musik dort klasse, kommt nach Hause und macht aus dem Kult-Track eine Britt-Jazz Nummer. Die Voodoogötter sind darüber natürlich not amused…Fertig ist der Horror-Plot.

Blabla… Ihr kauft ja eh keine Platten und die ganze Kacke schreib ich eigentlich nur, um den folgenden netten Filmschnipsel der Voodoo Session einen textlichen Rahmen zu geben (Der eigentliche Track, um den es geht, kommt ab 6:38.)

Versteh ich zwar nicht so ganz, aber ist sicher eine total gute Idee…

“this video shows the latest version of a project i like to call “disko” or “v+” or “my beautiful darling”, etc…

the data(rotation speed, needle position) i get out of a white timecode vinyl is not only used to control sound but also animations which are projected directly onto the vinyl itself.

in this short demo i define objects which trigger samples and change their appearance when “hit” by the needle.

the timecode’s speed data controls rotation, colors and sample pitch.
by reading out the timecode’s needle position the computer can tell “exactly” when a virtual object is being hit by the turntables needle.”
