Deluxes Lineup eigentlich bei dieser Kunstausstellung in einer mir bisher unbekannten Galerie. Ist allerdings schon heute abend, die Vernisage, und ich habe noch von gestern Schmerzen, deshalb kann ich dir nicht versprechen, dass wir uns da heute kennenlernen würden, wenn wir es nicht eh schon täten. Signals through the Flames is an exhibition and music-event initiated by Shadowcast.Organization, a group of autonomous individuals, working together to organize events centered around music, art, new media and critical theory. It draws together an eclectic mix of around 90 international artists and musicians from largely varying backgrounds for a two week happening at the PHB-Gallery, in Berlin-Friedrichshain.
The location for this event, a former brewery and industrial monument, reflects characteristics truly unique to Berlin: A city still under (re-)construction, with large amounts of abundant infrastructure, architectonic niches that are able to host and absorb art and (sub-)culture. Signals through the Flames is largely based on ideas of the Neoism- and Fluxus-Movements, both known for blurring the borders of traditional artist practice and the blending of different artistic media and disciplines. The title derives from the influential French poet, actor and director Antonin Artaud who called for a theater ‘in which the actors are like victims burning at the stake, sending signals through the flames’. In other words, he asked artist to show an extreme, authentic and unrestricted form of expression. Signals through the Flames places high profile artists and musicians in a raw and non-conventional setting,potentially enabling them to do exactly that.
The exhibition involves people from all artistic backgrounds: media-, video-, street-, performance- and installation-artists, designers, painters, filmmaker, hackers, VJs, sculptors, writers, photographers, musicians, and art-activists. It is set up as a large cultural experiment in which these different media will collide, merge and intersect.

Mann, noch ein Post – es scheint ja schliesslich die Sonne draussen.

Ok… Ich weiss natürlich, dass wahrscheinlich keiner hier in den nächsten Jahren zufällig nach Brüssel kommen wird, wozu auch.

Trotzdem werden dort die 200 Cover-Artworks der neusten LP des Uske Orchestra’s in einer Galerie ausgestellt und feilgeboten, allesamt (vom Künstler?) handmade Originale.

Wow. Dass zollt v.a. mir grössen Respekt ab, der ich scheinbar schon unfähig bin, Flyer in der richtigen Grösse drucken zu lassen.

A Hawk and a Hacksaw (often abbreviated to AHAAH) is a balkan/krezmer band from Albuquerque, New Mexico. It is currently on The Leaf Label. The band consists primarily of percussionist Jeremy Barnes, who was previously the drummer for Neutral Milk Hotel, and violinist Heather Trost. The music is inspired by eastern European and particularly Balkan traditions, and is mostly instrumental with occasional vocals, shouts and cheers. The band has toured with The Olivia Tremor Control and Beirut. During its CMN tour of the UK in 2007 it was accompanied by the The Hun Hangár Ensemble. The band’s self-titled first album provided the soundtrack for the documentary Zizek!, which features Slovenian cultural theorist Slavoj Zizek (the film’s director, Astra Taylor, is married to Barnes’ former Neutral Milk Hotel bandmate Jeff Mangum).

The name comes from a line in Hamlet (Act II, scene ii) — “I am but mad north-north-west: when the wind is southerly I know a hawk from a handsaw.” — which was also the source for the title of Alfred Hitchcock’s North By Northwest.
