Einer der natürlich zahlreichen Gründe mal wieder einen Abstecher nach Amsterdam zu unternehmen, wäre sicher ein Besuch der ‘Handmade Music Amsterdam’. Diese Veranstaltung wird vom legendären STEIM Amsterdam veranstaltet, seit 1969 eine Innovationsschmiede für DIY-Electronic und Audiovisualisation.
Das Ganze hat allerdings schon gestern stattgefunden. Ist aber nicht schlimm, denk ich mal. Du wärst ja ohnehin nicht hingegangen, oder ?

A good three years after his first solo debut „No Time Left“ on Eventuell Tim Berresheim presents the CD „Studies in Future Blues“ on his own New Amerika label. The new album shows a different take on experimental music. While „No Time Left“ gave a proof of his skills as multi-instrumentalist, „Studies in Future Blues“ is pure computer music. The title is programmatic because here Berresheim presents different takes on Bluesrock: from plunderphonic tracks in the tradition of John Oswald via melancholic treatments a la Caretaker to abstract microassemblies that remind of early computermusic of, for example, Horacio Vaggione. The seven tracks, all entitled „Wicked Son“, are highly entertaining demonstrations of his craftmanship. Cover art by Tim Berresheim, released on the occasion of the correspondent exhibition at the gallery Hammelehle und Ahrens in Cologne.
Auf dem Staalplaat Sublabel Staaltape erscheint morgen der Audiokassettenrelease ‘Berlin Tape Run’.
Im vergangenen Jahr wurde dieses damals noch leere Tape von Berliner Musiker weitergereicht und jeder durfte sich in 4-minütiger Länge darauf verewigen.
Das Ergebnis dessen, insgesamt 40 Minuten unterscheidlichster Stilrichtungen, wird morgen auf der offiziellen Releaseparty der geneigten Hörerschaft präsentiert werden. Gehste doch hin.

Leider ist zur Zeit alles langweilig und kaum erwähnenswert. Oder es entzieht sich erfolgreich meiner Kenntnis. Wahrscheinlich das Letztere. Ich befürchte fast zwangsläufig muss man sich doch selbst etwas einfallen lassen. Ich fange gleich damit an. Zumindest darüber nachzudenken. Bestimmt. Noch dieses Jahr vielleicht schon.

The MANIAC (Multiphasic Analog Inter-Active Chromataphonic (sequencer)) was an analogue sequencer having variable step lengths, and the ability to split sequences into several smaller groupings giving considerable sonic potentiality. Addition and subtraction of events was possible, as well as the possibility to chromatically correct the output during performance. David Vorhaus could program his MANIAC sequencer to play a background rhythm or combination of musical events, to then improvise over the top with another instrument or synthesizer.
The Kaleidophon was a double-bass-like instrument using four velocity-sensitive ribbon controllers instead of strings. The instrument is played entirely using the left hand, leaving the right hand free to manipulate the sound via a number of controllers and a joystick.

I followed Wim Maesschalck from Belgium with his music project ‘Wixel’ for several years now. I’d describe the music as Ambient, Acoustic Indie, tho i’m not very good in categorizing musical genres as they often use to overlap anyway.
So, after two full-length albums Wim’s new project has some different approach.
He’s trying to release twelve albums in 2009, one album a month, each one spinning around a theme, that i’d say has some reference to the actual season or mood.
While the January and February album were more droney, instrumental albums, the third one for March even has vocals added to. Hard to find a fitting comparison, as i’m not good in that too, but let’s say, Sigur Ros might come to your mind (to mine at least).

Every release is limited to the numbers of days each month has, has handmade artwork and is, as i can approve, worth every little bug you have spend. But gentle Wixel also gives you the chance to get his releases digital for free, or a donation.

Burnley in Britain is one of the focal points of the planet’s most terrifying and hilarious forms of dance music: donk.
There’s a bit of debate about donk’s origins, but generally people attribute early-90s Dutch producers like Ultrabeat for pioneering the sound. It’s a rave-based dance music created around no-budget 150 bpm bouncy beats, intrusive fog-horned synth stabs, cartoon-y samples, and unsettlingly saccharine highs.
It’s basically happy hardcore on a crippling steroid comedown. The word “donk” comes from the relentless, maddening “donk” sound that’s overlaid on the beats.
When dancing, a donk commonly makes the dancer bounce on the donk beat.

Raw to the bone, mindblowing future beats drifting across an utterly freaking sick clip-collage, delivering a taste of Berlin-based electronic liveact „Soni-Riot“, and her special incendiary skills to bomb the dancefloor, forcing the crowd to beg for more pitch-shifting shock-for-the-system patterns.
